Scranton residents will soon be able to make payments to the city of Scranton using electronic banking services. The Scranton city council approved utilizing the services of Iowa Interactive to allow payments electronically.
Todd Smith with Iowa Interactive met with the council at its July 14 meeting. He presented information on services provided by his firm which facilitates credit card processing. City officials have seen an increase in the number of requests to utilize bank cards, credit cards or electronic checks as payment options.
The council discussed the use of the card swiper, security, PCI compliance and set up. The use of Iowa Interactive as the city’s credit card and electronic payment processor was unanimously approved.
It was also decided to contract with Secure Shred Solutions for document shredding at a cost of $40 per quarter.
Two appointments were made by mayor B J Wright to the Scranton library board of trustees. Bill Scrivner was approved unanimously by the council. Cheryl Robson was approved on a split ballot with Ethel Subbert casting the dissenting vote.
Jim Jones gave the monthly water and sewer reports. Items mentioned included the new NPDES permit, additional testing equipment needed, lagoon levels, infiltration, hydrant flushing, water PH levels and a possible leak between wells three and four.
Tina Walker reported for the library. She talked about trustee officers, hiring and resignations, building repairs, cleaning, handicap parking, missing materials and interlibrary loans. Chad Kirk gave the monthly maintenance report on equipment repairs and mowing.
A public hearing was scheduled for Aug. 11 regarding the sale of city-owned real estate. Ken Paxton gave a status report on the Greene County Chamber and Development.
Other items discussed but no action taken included setting a joint meeting with the Community Center board, vacating an alley, storm water drainage and mower replacement options.
